2017 Annual Servant Leadership Conference – March 13-14
Presented by Servant Leadership Institute in San Diego
By Carol Malinski
Servant Leadership Institute
For the past six years, the Servant Leadership Institute has presented servant leadership conferences that feature world-class thought leaders and presenters focused on telling the story of servant leadership. 2017 will be no exception, as SLI presents, “The Music of Servant Leadership,” March 13-14, 2017.
The goal of every leader is to create a beautiful melody in the workplace, and with servant leadership that becomes possible as leaders take employees’ strengths and weaknesses and help them find their beat to work in harmony. SLI invites you to listen, learn, and practice so you can orchestrate the change necessary to help your team find its song and achieve results that are simply extraordinary.
- Art Barter, SLI founder and CEO, servant leadership implementation expert
- Ken Blanchard, world-renowned leadership expert and bestselling author
- Charles Hazlewood, internationally acclaimed conductor

More speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.
“Help your employees find the beat, then watch them dance,” said Art Barter, SLI Founder and CEO. “Servant leadership is no quickstep. It’s like a waltz with dips and turns, a journey that takes patience and dedication,” added Barter. With inspiring speakers, interactive sessions, and a wide array of tools to equip you on your journey, you’ll leave this conference with pep in your step and a desire to lift those around you.
SLI invites you to participate in the 2017 Servant Leadership Conference as a sponsor. Opportunities are available to suit any budget and objective. Professionals throughout the country who seek a better way to lead will attend this event; past conferences have sold out, and this one will be no different. Support from organizations like yours is critical to the event’s success, as it allows SLI to provide top leadership experts, and enables community-based leaders and students to attend by offsetting their travel and registration expenses.

A New Year, A New Look
“The world moves on, and we must move with it.” —Lady Mary from Downton Abbey
Unlike some of the folks of Downton Abbey, the team here at SLI advocates and embraces change, especially change that will build our community of servant leaders. In recent months, we have been working on a project to rebrand SLI. Soon, we will be launching a new website intended to inspire and equip you to lead in an uncommon way, by putting others first. We are creating a site where you will feel at home, a place that will stimulate reflection as well as interaction.
One change often leads to another, so we realized our logo was due for a change as well. Our new logo will be symbolized by the upside down organizational chart that is key to the tenets of servant leadership. In the traditional organizational chart, the leader is at the top and all the people serve him or her, thus the leader has no one to serve. But, flip that org chart upside down and the leader is now below everyone else and has a multitude of people to serve. “We’re excited about SLI’s new look, and New Year ahead,” said Robin Swift, SLI President. “It is super rewarding to see the servant leadership movement growing throughout the world; we always strive to raise the bar and lead the way.”
We are busy making these changes a reality, so be on the lookout for a new look and feel from SLI, inspiring and equipping those we influence to lead from their hearts and discover no limits.
